“These are clearly some seriously experienced singers, the kind who can instinctively communicate with one another with an almost terrifying exactness. I particularly enjoyed the mass of sound produced by the ensemble, one where the singers still embraced the individual colour of their voices…”
— Stella Joseph-Jarecki, Fever Pitch Magazine (November 2019)

The Singers

Each singer of Polyphonic Voices is an accomplished musician and performer. With rigorous auditioned entry, the choir composes a core membership of 16 voices, complimented by a wide network of choral professionals. At ease performing even the most demanding of polyphonic choral repertoire, the choir generally features either a 16 or 24 voice group.

Unusually, the ensemble was initiated by the singers and is run by a dedicated committee of singers. From event management, to finance and marketing, the business development of the group is managed by the singers.

Melbourne, Australia is fortunate to boast a thriving choral arts scene, providing exemplary education and training to young singers from primary school through to adulthood. The founding members of Polyphonic Voices were mostly graduates of the Choir of Trinity College (Chapel), a university choir which trains singers in the tradition of English sacred choral music. Soon after graduation, and numerous dinner parties featuring mammoth sing-along in 8-part harmony festivities, the singers decided to formalise the fun and form a new choir. After a few meetings to establish the operations of the group, the singers approached Michael Fulcher with the concept - a group run by singers, for singers, led by an Artistic Director who could foster and inspire the energy and passion into a world-class professional choral ensemble. Michael was up to the challenge! The first performance, in December 2013, was at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Following the performance, the captivated audience immediately asked about subscriptions and future concerts, and thus, Polyphonic Voices was born.

By day, the singers excel in their chosen professions. A diverse range of careers include general practioners, lawyers, teachers, music therapists, governance and finance officers and music professionals. Each singer shares a passion for making exceptional music together.
